Anakin Skywalker's Lightsaber

Certainly the most iconic weapon in Star Wars, Anakin's lightsaber (or Skywalker's lightsaber) has made many appearances. Of course, we're talking about the second lightsaber Anakin made and used throughout the Clone Wars. This one has a lot more to say than its predecessor, which was unfortunately lost on Geonosis.

It is in particular this saber that allowed us to see Anakin practice the V Djem So form with the lightsaber. The weapon was used against opponents such as numerous droids, Asajj Ventress or Count Dooku.

The lightsaber has not only been in the hands of Anakin Skywalker... Other characters than him will use it, especially descendants of his blood, hence the name "Skywalker lightsaber". If you're ready to learn more about this legendary sword, you've come to the right place !

Presentation of Anakin Skywalker's Lightsaber

Anakin Skywalker's lightsaber hilt

This lightsaber of Anakin Skywalker was built after the Battle of Geonosis, due to the loss of the previous one. The lightsaber is chrome with black edges on the lower part of the handle. The handle contains a blue Kyber crystal inside, which gives the plasma blade an indigo tint..

The conception of this lightsaber has a very particular origin that we owe to Roger Christian, in charge of the realization of the accessories of the film. In order to create Anakin's lightsaber, he based it on a camera, the Graflex Speed Graphic 4x5 model. More exactly, the inspiration comes from the tube that serves as a handle for the camera's flash. So it is thanks to a camera that the whole design of Anakin's iconic lightsaber was born.

Anakin's fights with this Lightsaber in the Star Wars movies

AWith this second lightsaber, Anakin played by Hayden Christensen faced several enemies. However, two notable confrontations were staged in Star Wars. The second marking the beginning of a new era...

Anakin Skywalker versus Count Dooku

This duel pits Anakin Skywalker and Obi-Wan Kenobi against Count Dooku in Star Wars, Episode III: Revenge of the Sith. The short fight is greatly led by Anakin who declared to have doubled his power since their previous confrontation on Geonosis. Darth Tyranus lost his life to Anakin. The Jedi Knight did not want to kill Dooku, but the Chancellor ordered him to finish off the Sith Lord...

Anakin Skywalker versus Obi-Wan Kenobi

The fight also takes place in the last film of the second trilogy. It is one of the most famous fights of the saga which takes place after Anakin makes Padmé Amidala faint. The battle is fierce, we have the chance to enjoy various shots in several places of Mustafar, including over the lava. Anakin is overconfident in his skills and loses to Jedi Master Obi-Wan's lightsaber, which cuts off his legs and an arm.

The mentor will leave with Anakin's lightsaber and will keep it for several years on the planet Tatooine. Before becoming the Darth Vader we all know, Darth Sidious will come to save Anakin from an imminent death following this terrible confrontation. Completely unarmed, he will later create Darth Vader's lightsaber. Anakin will never again wield the saber he built as a Jedi.

Who else but Anakin used his Lightsaber ?

If Anakin is the one who made his lightsaber, he is not the only one who wielded it. It is not for nothing that some people call it the "Skywalker lightsaber". This is due to the fact that some of Vader's descendants have also used it in turn.

Luke Skywalker

Luke Skywalker

Almost 20 years after Ben Kenobi kept the sword on Tatooine, he will give it to Padawan Luke in Star Wars, Episode IV: A New Hope. Luke will use the lightsaber for 3 years and will train to improve his mastery, including on the Millennium Falcon for the first time. Nevertheless, he will lose the lightsaber (and his right hand) against his father the Sith Lord Darth Vader on the City of Clouds. Following this, Luke Skywalker will make a green lightsaber that he will use for many years.

The clone Luuke Skywalker

After Luke lost his hand, Darth Vader found it and his lightsaber. He brought it back to his master Sidious who decided to keep it. Later, Jorus C'Baoth used the DNA from the hand to create an evil clone of Luke: Luuke Skywalker. He looked exactly like him in appearance, but his mind was exclusively under the orders of his creator. Also, he fought with the lightsaber that Luke used to wield, Anakin Skywalker's lightsaber.

Mara Jade Skywalker

Mara Jade Skywalker

This character is the one who finished Luke's clone and his master Jorus C'Baoth. Even more, she is the one who became Luke Skywalker's wife. He decided to give her the lightsaber, which she used from time to time, alternating with a purple lightsaber that she built herself. After Mara Jade's death at the hands of Darth Caedus, the lightsaber was stored by Luke in the Jedi Temple.

Finn

Finn

A Stormtrooper under the serial number FN-2187 and later a member of the Resistance, Finn also made use of Anakin's lightsaber. For the first time, Finn wields the Skywalker lightsaber in Star Wars Episode VII: The Force Awakens at Maz Kanata Castle. He fights against First Order troops and then confronts Kylo Ren with the same lightsaber towards the end of the film.

Rey Skywalker

Rey Skywalker

Rey is the heroine of the third Star Wars trilogy, she will have to fight several times with Anakin's lightsaber. During the seventh opus, the saber is kept by Maz Kanata in a safe. The weapon calls Rey who ends up touching the lightsaber, causing her to have several terrifying visions. Later, she will wield Anakin Skywalker's lightsaber in several duels, including against Kylo Ren and her grandfather Sheev Palpatine.

Kylo Ren

Kylo Ren

Ben Solo (or Kylo Ren) is the main antagonist of the postlogic, he will choose to move further and further away from the dark side until he becomes an ally of Rey. Kylo Ren's cross-guard lightsaber is not the only one he wielded. The first time he uses Anakin's lightsaber is in Star Wars, Episode VIII: The Last Jedi against the Praetorian Guards of Snoke, the Supreme Leader. Later, he will use it again to fight against the Knights of Ren in Episode IX.

How did Anakin Skywalker's Lightsaber end up ?

At the end of Star Wars Episode IX: Skywalker's Ascension, we see Rey returning to Tatooine. Before deploying her enigmatic yellow lightsaber, the protagonist comes to bury in the sand the lightsaber of Anakin Skywalker (which is above all Luke's for Rey) and that of Leia Organa. She considers Luke and Leia as her real parents, unlike Darth Sidious whom she prefers to exclude from her family.

This scene is seen as a final tribute by Rey to honor the weapons of those with whom history began. Since then, Anakin Skywalker's lightsaber has not moved, it is still buried under the sand of Tatooine...

Lightsabers of Anakin Skywalker and Leia Organa

As you can see, Anakin Skywalker's lightsaber is a true relic that played a big role in the Star Wars storyline. Passed down from generation to generation through the Skywalkers, the weapon deserves to be appreciated by fans as well. We are not immune to the possibility that the saber will resurface in the future. !

Finally, don't forget that Anakin isn't the only one who can conjure up such a blue blade from this lightsaber. With our Legendary ANA-S replica, you'll have the opportunity to fully step into the shoes of the Jedi turned Sith. You can discover it by clicking just below :
