Considered one of the most important characters, Luke Skywalker is a staple of the Star Wars saga. Originally, Luke wielded his father Anakin's first blue lightsaber when he was still a Jedi. Obi-Wan gave him this saber when he began training him in Star Wars, Episode IV: A New Hope. However, he didn't keep it forever...
Indeed, in Star Wars, Episode V: The Empire Strikes Back, Luke Skywalker duels his father Darth Vader on Bespin and gets his hand cut off by the latter. The saber is then recovered by the Dark Lord of the Sith.
Disarmed, the Jedi Luke decided to create a green lightsaber. This second lightsaber first appeared in Star Wars Episode VI: Return of the Jedi in 1983. Luke used it for many missions, including the Battle of Endor, rescuing Han Solo from Jabba the Hutt, and in The Mandalorian to find and train Grogu.
Luke built this green lightsaber on Tatooine between Episode V and VI, where Kenobi lived before. There he found Jedi texts that helped him build his saber. To do so, he collected parts from vendors located in Mos Eisley. The hilt is 28 centimeters long and is mostly silver with black and gold accents. It is notched and flares towards the emitter. The saber also has a housing that handles the green plasma blade and an energy cell in the pommel.
This saber design is very reminiscent of the last lightsaber of Obi-Wan Kenobi, his mentor. This is not by chance, it is a tribute from Luke to his master who was inspired by Qui-Gon Jinn's lightsaber for his first two sabers.
The Kyber crystal in Luke's lightsaber is green, which is the reason for the emerald hue of the plasma blade. This crystal is synthetic, as the young Padawan created it with a brazier and then worked it to be as close to an Adegan crystal as possible.
So far, we have seen Luke's green lightsaber only a few times in movies or live action series. However, the only appearances of Luke with this saber are memorable. So we have selected the best ones for you!
As Han Solo, Chewbacca, his sister Leia and his enemy Jabba the Hutt look on, a battle is started by Luke. Just above the great pit of Carkoon, R2-D2 sends young Skywalker his lightsaber, which starts the battle. Using this green saber, he deflects blaster fire and knocks Jabba the Hutt's men into the Sarlacc, including the bounty hunter Boba Fett. The passage takes place in Star Wars, Episode VI: Return of the Jedi.
This is the return fight of Luke against his father Vader in episode VI which will conclude the first trilogy. Just before the duel begins, Luke Skywalker's saber is confiscated by Darth Sidious who received it from Vader's hands. However, the Jedi Luke will use the Force to recover his weapon and start the fight by surprise. Darth Vader stopped his first strike, which was far from being his last. Luke finally overcame his Sith father and returned his Cho Mai as he cut off his hand holding Vader's red saber. Finally, Luke made the choice to throw away his saber so as not to let hatred take over his mind as Sidious expected.

Darth Vader to Luke
This time, Luke appears with his green lightsaber in the last episode of season 2 named "The Rescue" in the series The Mandalorian. This scene takes place on Gideon's ship which was recently defeated by Din Djarin. The Mandalorian thus becoming the new owner of the Mandalorian Black Saber at the same time. To the great surprise of all Star Wars fans, Luke Skywalker then appears and destroys the Dark Troopers on the ship one after the other without any difficulty. This impressive show of force by Luke was motivated by his desire to save Grogu. Indeed, he took him under his wing to learn from him.
Luke's green lightsaber will have left its mark for the different mythical scenes where we could see it. It is not the only saber that the Jedi wielded in addition to the lightsaber of his father. Not many people know this but Luke did have a yellow lightsaber. He wielded it between the time he had his father's and the one he made.
In fact, George Lucas initially wanted the second saber created by Luke to have a blue blade. Then, he changed his mind because he felt that this color would not look good because of the many scenes on Tatooine where the sky is a bright blue.
